19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging season, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive win over challenger Moutet.

It is his initial trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court from March of the previous year.

The win also signifies the Russian has won twenty-one victories at 21 distinct events.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

His counter-punching approach and frequent outbursts on court had caused observers to wonder if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.

But the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an better serving game.

He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour title, gained dominance to force a third set.

Moutet saved four initial chances in a close deciding set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
